Make sure you are cleaning with gloves!

1.Cleaning without wearing gloves.

When you clean without wearing gloves, you are exposing your hands to several elements, such as toxic chemicals and water temperatures, that could cause irritation and drying of the skin.

So not only is it important that you wear gloves but you must also make sure that you are using them for that specific cleaning task to avoid cross contamination. For example, gloves that you use for dish washing should be keep in the kitchen and not be worn when cleaning the bathroom toilets.

2. Vacuuming too fast.

When vacuuming, you should always start at the entrance of the room and work your way to the farthest corner then back again. Movements should be slow and consistent as this allows your vacuum’s brush  to properly agitate your carpet fibers to completely remove dust and dirt.

3. Making your bed first thing in the morning.

Due to our bodies sweating during the night, moisture is often left in the bed when we wake. When you make your bed as soon you get up, you are not allowing this moisture to evaporate increasing the chances of bacteria growth on your bed sheets. Instead of making your bed as soon as you wake, pull the sheets back for a few minutes to give your bed adequate time to air out.

4. Overloading your dishwasher.

Overloading your dishwasher cause several problems including having not all of your dishes cleaned properly. Prevent wear and tear on your machine by loading only enough dishes so that they fit in their compartments comfortably without overlapping. Opt to hand wash any remaining dishes to avoid from having to run a second load.

5. Using a feather duster.

Most feather duster’s are ineffective for dusting unless they are made with 100% ostrich feathers. If they are not, a feather duster will do nothing more than stir and spread dust everywhere. The best choice you can make in choosing a dusting tool is by using microfiber cloths. Microfiber cloths are more suited for dusting as the fibers attract and trap dust.

6. Scrubbing spills on carpet.

Immediately scrubbing an accidental spill on your carpets is considered one of the worst things that you can do as this can make the stain spread and increase the likelihood of your carpet fibers becoming damaged from the vigourous rubbing. Instead, gently blot the stain with a dry cloth until most of the stain has been absorbed then use a carpet cleaning solution to remove any remaining stains.

7. Spraying furniture polish directly on furniture.

When you spray your furniture directly with furniture polish it’s likely you’ll end up using way more product than you actually need.  Overtime, this leads to product build-up making your furniture appear dull and making it harder to clean. Instead, spray your polishing cloth with your cleaner and use it to apply the solution to your furniture.

8. Forgetting to clean the TV remote.

Doorknobs, faucets, light switches and TV remotes are breeding grounds for germs as they are used and touched frequently but often neglected. Simply go over these areas with a disinfecting wipe at least once a day to ensure that germs are being kept at bay. 9. Not allowing cleaning products adequate time to sit.

When you use a cleaning product, the first thing you should look for on the label is its “contact time” or how long the product should sit before taking any action on it. Allowing your cleaning products adequate time to “work it’s magic” will ensure that you are getting the most out of your product as well as making cleaning easier on yourself.
