Dishwasher Tips and Tricks

1. Clean your dishwasher’s spray arms regularly.
If you notice that your dishwasher is not cleaning like it used to, it could be because there’s food or mineral build-up in the holes of the spray arms. You can simply take a toothpick or wire hanger to clean these openings when needed.
2. Stop “dishwasher confusion” with DIY clean/dirty magnets.
Using just Washi tape and magnets, you can create little magnets to place on the front of your dishwasher that will keep everyone in your household on the same page on whether or not the dishes in the washer are clean or dirty.
3. Remember to place small plates and cups at the top of your dishwasher.
Load your dishwasher the proper way by remembering to load small cups and plates on the top rack of the washer and large items on the bottom. This will ensure that space is fully maximized and that all items will be cleaned properly.
4. Place your lids in a mesh bag.
To prevent those lids and other small, loose items from spinning around in the washer and creating noise or causing irreperable damage, you can simply place these items in a mesh laundry bag to contain them.
5. Place a cup of white vinegar on the top rack of your washer.
To increase the efficiency of your dishwasher, run an empty cycle with a full cup or bowl of white vinegar on the top rack. This will help remove smells, bacteria and other deposits created from frequent use of your dishwasher.
6. Run hot water in your sink before starting your dishwasher.
This will ensure that the cold water has been purged from your dishwasher’s water line and hot water would be immediately available for effective cleaning.
7. Do not place the same utensils together.
I know your inner neat-freak would love to see all the forks and spoons hanging out with “like kind” in the utensil rack but this is actually a bad idea.
When forks or spoons are nesting on each other, it becomes difficult for them to be cleaned effectively. When loading your utensil rack, mix and match utensils as well as place a few right side up and upside down.
