1. Download money-saving apps.
Before leaving your house, download money saving apps such as Ibotta and Flipp to earn cash back and get weekly flyers/deals sent directly to your phone.
2. Make a list.
Make a list before you leave the house and stick with it. No matter what.
3. Don’t listen to the music!
Be aware of the music that is playing in the grocery store! It is selected to make you unintentionally walk slower thus making you stay in the store longer. Bring your own music to listen to while you shop to stay focused.
4. Only grocery shop when it’s necessary.
Never go to store for just one item. It’s a waste of time and money plus you’re more likely to buy more things that you don’t need.
5. Leave the credit cards home.
Leave your credit card at home. Only grocery shop with cold, hard cash. When it’s physically in your hand, then you can better keep track of how much you spend.
6. Skip the bananas with the spots.
Avoid buying bananas with brown spots as they are already in the process of going bad. Instead buy slightly green bananas and wrap the end where they gather with plastic wrap or aluminum foil to preserve them for longer.
7. Know this trick for buying ripe fruit.
When buying pineapple, you can tell if it’s ripe by smelling the bottom of it. The same trick works for strawberries.
8. Thump the watermelon.
Thump a watermelon to check for ripeness. If it has a hollow sound, then it’s sweet and ready for eating.
9. Buy in bulk only when it makes sense.
Buy in bulk when it makes sense, such as when your favorite shampoo or toothpaste is on sale. Don’t buy items that are easily perishable such as fruit and vegetables as most will spoil before eaten.
10. Avoid the items in the checkout line!
Avoid buying anything near or on the checkout line. Those items were strategically placed there to make you spend more money!
I really hope these simple tips help you save more money at the grocery store and make your shopping trips a breeze.
