For several years, Pine-Sol has reigned as an all-around household cleaner as there are so many things that you clean with it plus who doesn’t love that pine oil scent?

However, in recent years, studies have shown that Pine-Sol is full of toxic chemicals that have been linked to hormone disruption, pregnancy complications, birth defects, and cancer.

With this kind of information on hand, I am leaning more and more towards natural cleaners that I can make myself. With natural, homemade cleaners there’s virtually no worries of the toxicity of hard to pronounce chemicals and you also get to keep a few bucks in your pockets.

So when I came across a recipe for homemade pine oil cleaner, I had to try it for myself and the results blew me away.

This cleaner smells absolutely amazing and works wonderfully to clean my tile floors and wood furniture. Plus, I can sleep better at night knowing that I don’t have cancer-causing chemicals floating around my home. (Ha! I know it sounds crazy but who really knows!)

Below is my recipe for imitation Pine- Sol that works just as well if not better to clean your home.

DIY Pine-Sol Cleaner

Materials Needed:

The recipe for natural pine oil cleaner is as follows:

Instructions:

In a large container, mix a gallon of water with 1/4 cup Unscented Dr. Bronner Castile Soap. Water may turn cloudy which is normal. Place 15-20 drops of Pine Needle essential oil and 5-10 drops of Lemon Oil into container and swish or stir around. After using solution to clean, rinse clean and wipe with a dry cloth. For storage, I prefer glass containers such as this.

Notes:

  • If using tap water, make sure to use cleaning solution within 1-2 weeks.
  • You can cut measuring in half for smaller solutions.
  • The essential oil mixture is what works best for me but feel free to experiment. Always consult a professional if unsure of  the best essential oil dilutions for your situation.
