Spiders
Spiders apparently hate the smell of peppermint so to get rid of these pest, try spraying a diluted solution of peppermint oil in the corners and cracks of your rooms as well as near window sills. Not only will you get rid of spiders, but your home will smell lovely as well.
If peppermint isn’t your thing, you can try using these essential oils as well to naturally repel spiders from your home year round:
- Citrus
- Lavender
- Citronella
- Cinnamon
- Tea Tree
- Cloves
Ants
There are several ways that you can naturally deter ants from entering your home. One of the easiest methods involve drawing a chalk line where you see ants entering as they will not cross it and retreat.
Other chemical-free methods of getting rid of ants from the home include:
- Sprinkling grits on visible antbeds
- Sprinkling baby powder on ant trails
- Use a solution or white vinegar and water to wipe down counter tops and other areas where you have seen ants crawling
Mosquitoes
If you hate mosquitoes as much as I do then you will want to find a simple way to remove them from your yard and home. Place plants from the mint family such as Basil, Catnip and Citronella around your home to deter annoying mosquitoes from invading your space.
Bed Bugs
Tea tree oil is an effective, natural method to get rid of bed bugs fast. Create a mixture of water and tea tree oil then spray liberally in around the seams of your mattress, couch or any other areas where bed bugs are residing.
Flies
If flies have invaded your home, you can try setting up a few DIY traps that will work really well. Simply get a disposable bowl and fill with apple cider vinegar, sugar and a few drops of fruit-scent dish soap. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and poke a few holes in it to attract the flies and trap them in the container.
Mice
The scent of peppermint and lemon oil are known to be an effective mice deterrent. If you want to keep these cute but destructive critters away soak cotton balls with these oils and place in known areas around the home to make them go away as soon as possible.
Roaches
Roaches are attracted to sources of food and water. So to begin the process of removing them from your home, trick them into eating homemade roach bait. You will need 1 cup Borax, white flour and powdered sugar. Sprinkle this mixture underneath your stove and fridge as well as inside of your cabinets. Use caution when using around pets and small children.
